Davis County Civil War Days & Living History Encampment

October 9-11, 2009  civilwarraid@gmail.com

Shooter's Roost will again be the host site of the 2009 October 9-11 event. This site is well suited to the re-enactor as it has 40 acres of rolling hills, timber and grassland for optimum fun! Shooter's Roost has hosted many black powder shoots over the years and has also hosted a National Black Powder shoot. This is not a city park. You are in the woods and fields during the event.

This site is also on the route taken by the raiders in 1864 as they made their way across the county. The monument site is just a short mile west of Shooter's Roost.

Shooter's Roost is located just 5 miles south of Bloomfield, Iowa and is a nicely isolated area for the re-enactment. Plenty of camping area is available. Straw, wood, and hay will be provided for the re-enactors during this event.

This is the battlefield area of Shooter's Roost.

Lower level of Shooter's Roost near the battlefield.

Upper level of Shooter's Roost. This will be the camping area during the weekend long event.

DIRECTIONS TO SHOOTER'S ROOST

(Watch for blue & white signs)

If you are coming from the north you may take US Hwy. 63 south to Bloomfield, Iowa. At the junction of Hwys. 2 & 63 turn west. Go about 1/4 mile and turn south onto Lilac Avenue. At the water tower turn east onto the gravel road (230th Street). Take the first gravel road to the south (Mahogany Avenue). In about 3 1/2 miles the road will take a hard left turn. Instead of following the left curve you should turn to the right onto 265th St. Shooter's Roost will be on the right hand side of the road just about 100 yards up the road.

If you are coming from the west on Hwy. 2 then turn south onto Lilac Avenue and continue as above.

If you are coming from the east on Hwy. 2 then turn west onto 230th Street (which is about 8 miles west of Pulaski, Iowa or 1 mile east of Bloomfield, Iowa). Turn south onto Mahogany Avenue and continue as above.

If you are coming from the south make your way to Hwy. 2 and head to Bloomfield. Hwy 2 stretches all the way across Iowa and will get you to Bloomfield as well as give you a nice, scenic drive!

We look foward to seeing everyone at our event! There will be bleacher seating available this year at the battles but please feel free to bring your lawn chair.
