Monument

The monument is complete

The monument was completed in time for dedication during the 2005 event.   It stands atop a hill about 5 miles south of Bloomfield, Iowa at the corner of Lilac Ave. and 265th St.

The above photo is the middle plaque.  The two photos below are the Confederate plaque and the Union plaque.

Over 100 people signed in at the dedication ceremony.  There were people from as far away as Georgia at the ceremony.  Thank you to all of our dedication speakers:  Sherman Lundy of the Iowa Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans; Kurt Swaim, Iowa State Representative; Burr Brown, DC Civil War Guerilla Raid Society and Ottumwa Civil War Round Table member; Chris Rossi, Humanities Iowa; Carl Faulk, Iowa Division of Sons of Union Veterans; Charles England, William Quantrell Society; President Abraham Lincoln (Lance Mach of Cedar Rapids, IA); and thank you to Carl Faulk for the prayer of dedication.

Our group received a grant for $2000 from Humanities Iowa, a  $1000 donation from Sons of Confederate Veterans Iowa Division and a $500 grant from Sons of Union Veterans National Division to help with the monument costs and/or event costs.  In addition our own fund raising efforts have netted $1000 for the monument.  The Ottumwa Civil War Round Table has also been a big help to us with moral and financial support.  Thanks guys & gals!  Check out our "Sponsers & Volunteers" page for a complete listing of organizations and businesses that have helped support our monument and/or re-enactment.

We will also continue our efforts to have the entire raid route marked.  The areas where each of the three men who were killed in the raid will be marked in the spring of 2007.  We plan to have several more markers in place in 2007.

If you would like to help with the cost of the route markers please send your donation to :  Carl Boas, 10499 Mink Blvd., Bloomfield, Iowa 52537 and mark it as "Monument/Route Fund".  We are now a 501(c)(3) organization.  Your donation may be tax deductible.  Please consult your tax advisor.
